Before Sunrise, Before Sunset

I can't even express what these beautiful films made me feel. I think I fell in love, was ripped apart, and then put back together over and over again. Ethan Hawke is the sexiest thing ever in Before Sunrise, and absolutely endearing (and still handsome) in Before Sunset. Julie Delpy is also amazing; she says so many things about women and relationships that could have come from my head.

Sometimes I busy myself with other things while watching TV, but with both these movies, I was RIVETED to the screen. They are almost like plays rather than films, with the focus on amazing and heartbreaking dialogue. I'm not really into Romance movies, but Before Sunrise and Before Sunset manage to be both sentimental and real. There is no perfect happy ending here, but you still feel that you have witnessed an epic romance.

These films just may have changed my life.

The allure of Marianne Faithfull is so all-encompassing that even Patti Smith wrote a poem about her (from which the above quotation is taken). I think that she's lovely and fascinating and have devoured both of her books, Faithfull: An Autobiography and Memories, Dreams, and Reflections.

Mick Jagger had some fantastic women, but Marianne Faithfull is probably my favorite. She stands out among Stones muses as well.

This image reminds me of something she said in her book, about how she was the ghost of Cheyne Walk (the home she shared with Mick). Here she looks ethereal like a beautiful ghost. 

It's amazing how young she was when they first got together-- 19 (one year younger than me)!

Her image is innocent and pretty, but also heartbreaking and sad.

She looked so alluringly haunted (and drugged) around the time of Broken English (in my opinion her best work).

She's been mythologized and immortalized in song and legend. She's a muse and a singer/songwriter herself. She had Mick Jagger, one of the sexiest men of the sixties and seventies, but well, she actually preferred Keith Richards. She emerged from years of heroin addiction with a throaty voice and a powerful feminist perspective. Marianne Faithfull is pretty fascinating, no?

Whenever I'm anxious and can't sleep I listen to "My Sweet Lord" or "Blow Away" and everything gets better. I understand why most people prefer Paul and John, but honestly I love George's solo work. Listening to his album All Things Must Pass is a near transcendental experience.

The Searchers

Not crazy about the movie... beautiful man though

John Wayne was the star of The Searchers, but his character did nothing for me. He was basically an all-American asshole who likes to kill Indians. But Jeffrey Hunter's character, Martin, was quite compelling (and sexy as hell).
